There are eating habits that can make you fat. Eating habits can be defined as what you eat, how you eat, and when you eat.

You are what you eat, so they say. Can eating out make you fat? No. Poor eating habits can make you fat. There are eating habits that can make a person always fat. A lunch with soda and dessert, and sweets and chips in between your meals are sure ways to make you fat.

In the article entitled "Cause and Effect in Childhood Obesity" by J. Michael Wieting, DO, Med, the author wrote that child obesity have been on the rise because of poor eating habits. As a result, people suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure and other related illnesses. The high saturated fats in fast foods will ultimately cause arteries to clog, which can lead to stroke or heart attack.

There are many reasons for always being fat. Junk food addiction can have a significant impact on the weight of a person. Here are bad eating habits that may make people fat.

Couch Potato Lifestyle

People with a couch potato lifestyle are known to spend their time consuming food while watching television. While these people are in front of the boob tube, they are urged to have snacks whether they need it or not. Well, this is not surprising because to most people, television and snacks go hand in hand. Before they know it, they have eaten a bigger than normal portion of food.

When you cozy up on the couch in front of the television for hours, you tend to rack up more servings of snacks in place of eating real meals. Typical snack foods such as chips, cookies, and pretzels are not that satisfying, thus it will be easy to eat too much. Unfortunately, mindless snacking can make you fat. This poor habit can also hinder your weight loss program.

Being a Junk Food Junkie

When you pass by a bakery or a mini-stop, do you always enter and buy some goodies? Do you salivate when you walk past that vending machine full of chocolates? Junk food junkies are addicted to fat, or sugar. Dr. David Kessler wrote in his book, The End of Overeating, that many people share a tremendous drive to eat high fat, high-sugar foods anytime, even when they are not hungry.

Junk foods are "layered and loaded" with combinations of fat, sugar, and salt, and often so processed that you do not even have to chew much. Thus, fast foods have poor nutritional value. As a result, when you eat junk food, you are feeding your body with little amounts of vitamins and minerals and high amounts of calories. Although junk foods look very attractive because of the colors, flavor, and texture, they can cause obesity on people who prefer to have them often.

Binge Eating

Binge eating is a disorder that consists of episodes of eating when depressed, or stressed. Those nights after work, when you feel anxious, you find it relaxing to eat your way through two half-gallons of ice cream. People with binge-eating disorder often would eat large amounts of food rapidly or eat a lot even though they are not hungry. They eat in response to emotions.

Like anorexics and bulimics, binge eaters regard food a friend – something that could make them feel better when depressed or stressed. When they feel down, they stop at the drive-through and pick up four cheeseburgers, plus fries, to feel better.

We know many people who like junk food, some even more than others do. Binge eating is a common disorder among men and women, young or adult. Binge eating contributes some unnecessary calories, wrote Edward Abramson in his book Emotional Eating: What You Need to Know Before Starting Your Next Diet.

Bad eating behaviors can make one take frequent dieting, possibly without weight loss. In addition, being a couch potato, a junk food junkie, or a binge eater can take a heavy emotional toll on you. Eating disorders may make you feel depressed, disgusted, or upset about eating, in addition to making you fat. Here are other bad eating habits and how to avoid them.
